What is a business visa?
Business visas show long-term visas, based on which you can enter Romania and carry out different types of commercial activities.

How many categories of business visas are there?
We will refer to the following as business visas, in general:
Visa for Economic Activities (D / AE) – for professionals who have a certain training and qualify for the establishment of a PFA, according to Romanian law
Visa for Professional Activities (D / AP) – for professionals who want to work in Romania, but do not fall into the PFA category (eg lawyer, doctor)
Visa for Commercial Activities (D / AC) – for associations from Romanian companies that have management or administration powers and want to invest in Romania

Are there any special requirements?
In order to obtain the economic activity visa (D / AE), you must prove that you are registered as a PFA in Romania. This recording can also be done remotely, by a Romanian lawyer.

For professional activities (D / AP), you must be accepted or authorized as a professional in Romania, as appropriate.
This procedure may differ from one professional organization to another, and a lawyer can help you prepare the documentation in this regard.
In terms of business activities (D / AC), the procedure is more complex – you need to develop a business plan that receives prior approval from public authorities. The minimum investment starts from 150,000 euros or 25 work places per shareholder.

Who can apply for a business visa?
All business visas are applicable to non-EU professionals or investors.

How can I apply for a business visa?
You can apply for a business visa at the Romanian embassy or consulate in your country of origin. The visa file must include a series of documents, the most important being the proof that you want to carry out commercial activities in Romania.

How long can I stay in Romania based on this visa?
All business visas are long-term visas, which means that you can stay in Romania for a maximum of 90 days based on them.
If you want to live for a longer period in Romania, you will have to apply for a Romanian residence permit at least 30 days before the expiration of the visa, so in the first 60 days of legal residence.
If you exceed the duration of the visa, you can receive a fine. And if you exceed this period a lot, you may end up being deported or, in some cases, you may be banned from traveling to Romania in the future.

Is the visa different from the residence permit?
Yes. The visa normally gives you the right to enter Romania and stay here for a limited period of time, in this case a maximum of 3 months. But if you want to live in Romania for a longer period of time, you need a valid residence permit.

So, the first step is to apply for a visa in the country where you live, so that you can legally enter Romania. And if you want to continue living here, the second mandatory step is to apply for a Romanian residence permit at the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI) after you arrive in the country.
